Sydney, 10 November, 2008: Australian farmers should remain diligent and prepared in relation to their farm finances.
Commodity prices have weakened in the wake of the global financial crisis and the weak Australian dollar has impacted on input prices.
Grain Growers Association Chairman John Eastburn said it was an important time of year for farmers to really assess their farm’s financial health and plan ahead.
“Harvest is now underway in many regions and production levels will vary as a result of differing seasonal conditions across the country. Commodity prices are also fluctuating and grain growers particularly need to do their homework on their marketing choices.
“Farmers will need to carefully monitor their income and expenditure and their overall farm financial health should be top of mind,” Mr Eastburn said.
The publication Financing Your Farm, released by the Grain Growers Association (GGA) and the Australian Bankers’ Association (ABA) is a guide and reference when planning, financing and managing farm businesses.
The book provides independent information, useful tools and accounting case studies for farm businesses and is available now from the Kondinin Group at a reduced price of $29.95.
David Bell, Chief Executive of the ABA, said at a time like this it was clear that farmers not only need a business plan, but they constantly review it.
“Independent publications such as Financing Your Farm provide valuable assistance to farm businesses, no matter what stage the business is at, either new or expanding or succession planning for the next generation.
“Financing Your Farm is now more accessible for the Australian farming community and is a ‘must have’ resource for any farm business, particularly when farmers must change and move with the times and constantly re-evaluate their financial situation,” Mr Bell said.
Financing Your Farm - A Practical Guide to Financial Growth is available through the Kondinin Group for $29.95 It can be ordered from the website: www.kondinin.com.au or by calling 1800 677 761.
