FICA welcomes recent appointments to Financial Services
Centre initiative

The Finance Industry Council of Australia (FICA) welcomes the recent appointment of Mr Mark Johnson to take up the important role of leading the joint industry and government Financial Services Centre initiative.

Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Competition and Consumer Policy, Chris Bowen, recently appointed Mr Johnson, who is the retired Deputy Chairman of Macquarie Bank, and is currently Chairman of AGL Energy and Macquarie Infrastructure Group, to this Chairman role.

David Bell, FICA spokesperson, said:  “We expect that the forum will take a strategic and coordinated approach towards further developing Australia as an international Financial Services Centre. These senior appointments will prove invaluable in the ongoing strategic positioning of Australia’s financial services industry. Mr Johnson brings a wealth of industry experience to the job, both domestically and internationally.”

The Assistant Treasurer also appointed a Panel of Experts who will be joining Mr Johnson:

  • Mr Paul Binsted, Former Managing Director, Lazard Australia;
  • Mrs Patricia Cross, Non Executive Director, National Australia Bank;
  • Mr Jeremy Duffield, Managing Director, Vanguard Investments Australia;
  • Mr Craig Dunn, Chief Executive Officer, AMP; and
  • Mr John Story, Chairman Suncorp Metway.

Mr Bell said: “We congratulate Mr Johnson and the panel of experts on their appointment. These appointments confirm that the partnership approach between industry and Government is progressing well. FICA looks forward to playing an active role in the Financial Services Centre initiative.”
