ELECTRONIC BANKING SEMINARS

Melbourne, 17 October, 2003The Australian Bankers’ Association (ABA) and WIRE Women’s Information are working together to provide a series of free electronic banking seminars for Victorian women.

The seminars were launched today in Melbourne by Mary Gillett, MP, Victorian Parliamentary Secretary for Women’s Affairs.

Electronic banking is very popular as Australians enjoy the 24-hour convenience of completing transactions from their computer at home, over the telephone, at the supermarket or the ATM.

David Bell, Chief Executive of the ABA, said: “We are pleased to be working together with WIRE to offer these seminars which start at the end of the month to assist those who still may be unsure about the technology associated with electronic banking.”

“These seminars will assist explain the technology and show the variety of ways you can now access your bank account. “

Banks that will be providing the seminars are: Australia & New Zealand Bank, Bank of Melbourne, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, National Australia Bank, St George Bank, Suncorp-Metway and Westpac Banking Corporation.

Samiro Douglas, WIRE manager, said: “Working with the ABA allows us to bring women the information they need about electronic banking. We hope women from a range of ages and cultural backgrounds will attend our seminars and benefit from the supportive and informal atmosphere of the Women’s Information Centre.”

“The electronic banking seminars will help women develop their skills with banking technologies that previously they may not have felt confident using.”
